Law University facing faculty shortage

Bangalore, Aug 19 (UNI) The premier Law institution in the country, National Law School of India University is facing shortage of teaching staff.

University Vice Chancellor Dr A Jayagovind, in his welcome address at the XV Annual Convocation here today, said that though an all India interview were conducted for selecting the academic staff at all levels, in many critical areas, there were no candidates even after an exhaustive interview. "Quite a few who were so selected left after some time. The academic staff situation is still not satisfactory".

Stating that Law university was fully dependent on State governments unlike IITs and IIMs funded by the Central Government, he said that "we sincerely wish that the Central authorities would positively respond to our concerns so that we may whole-heartedly engage ourselves in the conducting of an Admission test, the scores of which may be used by all legal institutions aspiring to operation at all India level".

Dr Jayagovind said that the University would be hosting the Clinet Counseling Competition next year. This was for the first time an international competition of this type held in India. The importance of counseling, interviewing negotiations etc do not require any further elucidation to the community of lawyers.
