Chennai, Aug 19 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief M Karunanidhi will participate in the 64th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the state Congress headquarters here tomorrow, marking his first ever visit to any other political party office in his over six-decade-long political career.

Mr Karunanidhi would unveil a portrait of Rajiv Gandhi and deliver a special address on the occasion, in which AICC state in-charge Veerappa Moily, TNCC president M Krishnasamy, CLP leader D Sudarsanam and Congress MPs and MLAs would also take part.

The visit assumes significance in the wake of widening cracks in the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in the state with one of the constituents, PMK, locking horns with the government on various issues and the Left parties taking to streets to press their demands.

Political analysts were of the view that the octogenarian leader's maiden visit to the Congress office was a step to cement the relationship with his key ally, whose support was crucial to the survival of his one-year-old government.
