Fast against abolition of Pudukottai constituency tomorrow

Chennai, Aug 19 (UNI) Opposing the abolition of the Pudukkottai Lok Sabha constituency by the Delimitation Committee, AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa today announced that her party would observe a fast in Pudukkottai tomorrow, demanding the Election Commission to restore the constituency.

In a statement here, she said people in the area were shocked and aggrieved at the abolition of the constituency and attaching of the six Assembly constituencies coming under it to other Lok Sabha constituencies.

If the Pudukkottai revenue district was demarcated differently at the district level and as a Lok Sabha constituency, all developmental works would be split up and ignored. It would also hinder the improvement of people's living standard, she cautioned.

Ms Jayalalithaa said the party's election wing secretary O Panneerselvam would lead the agitation.

UNI
