Baba Amte stable

Nagpur, Aug 19 (UNI) Condition of noted social worker and Magsaysay Award winner Baba Amte, who was admitted to a private nursing home here after a decrease in blood haemoglobin and platelets, is now stable.

A CT scan of Mr Amte, carried out today, delivered normal results, doctors attending on him said. A bone marrow test is likely to be conducted tomorrow, they said.

93-year-old Mr Amte was brought here from Warora in Chandrapur district yesterday after his haemoglobin and platelets decreased to 6.8 (normal range 13 to 14) and 14,000 (normal range 1 lakh) respectively. This was due to bleeding through a catheter that Mr Amte had recently been fitted with due to an enlarged prostrate, the doctore said.

Mr Amte had been administered blood and platelets. They added.
