Agitators set JK police vehicle afire after accident

Srinagar, Aug 19 (UNI) Agitated people today set on fire a police vehicle after it hit a private car, critically injuring its occupants near here this afternoon.

A police spokesman said the driver has been suspended and taken into custody.

He denied that anyone has died in the accident.

Official sources said a speeding police vehicle hit a Maruti car at Polo ground near the traffic police office this afternoon.

The car was damaged and its occupants, including a child, critically injured.

Later, a large number of people busy in shopping in the nearby ''Sunday Market'', set the police vehicle afire.

They alleged that driver of the vehicle, who fled from the spot after the accident, was drunk.

Fire tenders later extinguished the fire.
