VSP inks deal with SMS Group for equipment

Visakhapatnam, Aug 18: The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) signed two contracts with SMS Group of Germany for supply of two LD converters, ladle furnace and RH degasser to leverage its expansion plans, today.

Orders for the LD converters for converting hot metal to liquid steel and the LF and RH degassers for refining steel to make high quality value-added products, were placed on SMS-India at an estimated cost of Rs 753 crore, involving a foreign component of 33.3 million Euros, a release said here.

The Indian Consortium partners would be Bhart Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for electrical works and Bridge and Roof for site erection.

The orders for ladle furnaces and one RH degasser were also placed on SMS-India at an estimated cost of Rs 165 crore, involving a foreign componet of three million Pounds, the release added.
