UP govt fixes age term of Vice-chancellors of Universities

Lucknow, Aug 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today fixed 65 years of age as maximum limit for the appointment of vice-chancellor (VC) of any university in the state.

The VC can only serve a tenure of three yrs till 68 years of age and they they can be appointed for a second term, only if they have not crossed the age of 65.

The decision was taken by the state cabinet here, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mayawati.

Briefing mediapersons here, principal secretary to CM Shailesh Krishna said those VCs, who had attained the age of 68 yrs will have to relinquish their post after the government brings an ordinance to this affect.

The new amendment will be implemented in all the 12 state varsities, technical varsities, agriculture varsities and Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University, Lucknow.

In another decision, the government has relaxed the norms for filling the vacant post in government department under the SC/ST quota.

The SC candidates can now be appointed in the ST categories, if their is no applicant from STs.

The government has also relaxed the norms for SC/ST landless agriculture labourer for regularisation of their government land, illegally occupied till May 13, 2007. Earlier, the date was May 1, 2007.

The cabinet also relaxed the upperage limit by three years for retrenched temporary employees engaged in census work in 1991 and 2001, if they apply for government jobs.

The age criterion of these employees would be same as what their age was in 1991 or 2001 for eligibility in government jobs.

In another decision, the government has extended the loan period of Rs 300.50 crore taken by the UP Cooperative Sugarmill Association from National Cooperative Development Corporation for another two years.

As the repayment of working capital could not be paid by the Cooperative Sugarmills by September 30, 2007, the loan period has been extended till June 28, 2009.
