TN Govt to bring Common University Act
Chennai, Aug 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Government would bring out a Common University Act to govern all Universities in the State and remove discrepancies between the rules governing each.
Speaking in a event organised at the University of Madras to honour affiliated colleges yesterday, Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education Vice Chairman A Ramasamy criticised self-financing professional colleges and accused them for ''looting students''.
''Currently, the Government is drafting a legislation to protect students and the public from these colleges'', he said.
Speaker R Avudiappan felicitated the University for having established linkages with more than 40 Universities across 17 countries.
''The State Government has also been taking several initiatives to improve the standards of education. Rural students have been granted access to professional courses with the cancellation of the Common Entrance Test(CET)'', he said.
Madras University Vice- Chancellor S. Ramachandran detailed the history of the institution.
Principals of affiliated colleges were honoured at the event.
