Sultry weather conditions persist in plains
Chandigarh, Aug 18 (UNI) Sultry weather conditions persisted in the plains in north-west India as monsoon rain eluded most parts of the region today.
People groaned under hot and humid conditions with the mercury level above normal at several places in the plains.
Except for Balachour and Nangal Dam areas, which were lashed by moderate rain overnight, Punjab region had no rainfall activity.
Balachour recorded 17.4 mm and the dam site 6.8 mm rain till this morning. Haryana, too, had no rainfall even as Ambala reported trace.
Himachal Pradesh, too, had respite from wet conditions overnight.
However, Pandoh and Kheri areas in the state were lashed by rain, respectively recording 6.0 mm and 3.2 mm rainfall.
Hot and humid conditions persisted in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas following showers in the night and in the morning. The city with 2.2 mm rainfall recorded the maximum humidity at 93 per cent and the minimum at 27 per cent.
The Met office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
