Siemens to install hot-strip mill in Orissa

New Delhi, Aug 18: Technology service provider Siemens Ltd today said it has received an order for installing a new hot-strip mill at Jindal Stainless Ltd's Orissa plant which would be commissioned by 2009.

The order includes the plant layout, the mechanical equipment, the drives as well as the entire basic and process automation, the company said in a statement.

Siemens will equip the mill with state-of-the-art equipment including hydraulic edger, flatness control and laminar cooling system.

The plant with an annual capacity of 1.6 million tonnes in the first phase will produce austenitic and ferritic stainless steel strips including minor quality of plates.

In the susequent project phase, the plant will be upgraded to produce 3.2 million tonnes by installing a second reheating furnace and a second down coiler.

''India ranks amongst the top ten steel producers in the world and we have a strong level of participation in this market, especially in the stainless steel segment,'' Siemens Ltd Managing Director J Schubert said in the statement.
