Officials to raid industries to ensure wage norm compliance

Yamunanagar, Aug 18 (UNI) The officers of Labour Department have been directed to carry out surprise inspections in the organised as well as unorganised industries to ensure that minimum wages were given to the labourers, Haryana Labour Minister Birender Singh said here today.

Mr Singh was addressing the State Level Workers' Conference organised by Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) at Saraswati Sugar Mills, Yamunanagar.

Reiterating the commitment of the State government to protect the interests of the labourers, he said Haryana was the first state in the country to implement the structured Labour Policy besides increasing their minimum wages from Rs 2485 to Rs 3510 per month.

This would benefit about four lakh labourers of organised sector and 22 lakh labourers of unorganised sector to the tune of about Rs three crore, he said.

The Labour Minister said about 50 Labour Inspectors would daily visit various factories to ensure that the labourers were paid minimum wages, Mr Singh said adding that the State government was committed to save the labourers from exploitation and solve their problems on priority basis.

It would also be ensured that better health care facilities were provided to the labourers through ESI, he added.
