Landslide disrupts traffic on Jammu-Srinagar Highway
Jammu, Aug 18 (UNI) The 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was again closed for vehicular traffic following fresh landslides near the Nandni area, about 30 km from here, official sources said.
Heavy rains triggered landslides on the Highway at Sukhetra-Nandni tunnel in Jammu district around 0200 hrs, said sources, adding that more than 800 vehicles, including some passenger vehicles, were stranded on both sides of the Nandni tunnel.
Though most of the vehicles were stopped near Nagrota on the Jammu side and Udhampur on the Srinagar side, thousands of vehicles are stranded on both sides of the tunnel.
However, the Border Road Organisation (BRO) has pressed its men and machinery to clear the highway and traffic was allowed to move on both sides of the tunnel using one tube.
