Indo-US nuclear pact in country's interest

Chhindwara, MP, Aug 18 (UNI) Making a dig at political parties opposing the Indo-US nuclear pact, Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath today said the deal would help the country generate additional 50,000 MW power.

''Nuclear power is the only alternative to conventional power,'' Mr Nath told reporters here.

Pointing out that there was much need for power in the country, he said the agreement was in the interest of the nation.

On the next Madhya Pradesh assembly elections to be fought under his leadership, the local MP said he would accept any responsibility given to him by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

He said two Special Economic Zones (SEZs) had been approved for the Chhindwara region. Procedure was underway for its implementation.

Besides, a 'knowledge centre' is starting here tomorrow.
