Flood situation worsens with incessant rains in UP
Lucknow, Aug 18 (UNI) The incessant rainfall in the hilly areas of Nepal and Uttarakhand has not only proliferated the water level of several rivers, but also raised the toll due to rain-triggered incidents in Uttar Pradesh.
With death of two more persons in Basti and Bareilly districts in the last 24 hrs the toll has reached 193.
Incessant rains being witnessed in Nepal for the last three days led to swelling of rivers in Gorakhpur and Basti division thereby, endangering several dams.
The water level of Ghaghra, Kuano, Rapti and Badi Gandhak were also increasing speedily.
The level of Rapti river has also started taking a dip after touching the red mark.
Rainfall at 66 mm was recorded in the last 24 hrs in Bardghat (Gorakhpur).
The Gorakhpur-Sonauli national highway remained blocked for the fourth consecutive day today in Gorakhpur division.
About 31 districts and two villages were inundated and marooned respectively in Basti. Ghaghra was flowing above the danger mark in the district.
The worsening situation of Ramganga, Behgul, Sharda and Kosi rivers had affected Shahjahanpur, Badaun and Bareilly districts.
Thousands of hectares of land had been affected by the flood in the 22 districts.
According to Central Water Commission, the turbulent Ghaghra was overflowing by 79 cm, 69 cm and 53 cm in Elignbridge, Ayodhya and Turtipar respectively.
Sharda was flowing 48 cm above the red mark. While, Rapti was flowing below the red mark in Balrampur, Budhi Rapti in Kakrahi and Chandradeep ghat were on the verge of swelling.
