Bandh disrupts life in Kohima

Kohima, Aug 18 (UNI) Indefinite bandh called by the Angami Students' Union (ASU) and Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has disrupted life here since yesterday.

The ASU and AYO called the bandh demanding handover of the culprits who attempted to kill former ASU president Medo Yokha on August 16.

ASU sources said some gunmen, allegedly from NSCN(K) faction, demanded money from the former students' leader. When Mr Medo refused, they termed him as the supporter of NSCN-IM and tried to shoot him. However, Mr Medo resisted and in the scuffle, a bullet fired, injuring him. Later, the gunmen managed to escape.

The ASU and AYO members assembled here yesterday and called the indefinite Kohima bandh in protest against the attempt on the life of their former leader.

Meanwhile, ASU and AYO leaders were scheduled to hold a meeting today to decide their further course of agitation, sources said.
