Bandh affects normal life in TN Dt

Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu, Aug 18 (UNI) A bandh observed in protest against the decision of the Election Commission to abolish Pudukottai Parliamentary Constituency in the recent delimitation drill, paralysed normal life in the district, with all political parties, including the ruling DMK, supporting it.

During Bandh, Buses remained off the road and even autorickshaws were not seen plying. Shops and business establishments remained closed. However, essential commodities like water and milk were exempted from the purview of bandh.

Tension prevailed at Avoor village near here, as a section of villagers detained 50 lorries from ferrying sand. However, police intervened and normalcy was restored.

Union Minister State for Forest and Environment S Ragupathy, who represents Pudukottai in the Lok Sabha, told newspersons here that legal measures would be sought to retain the Constituency.
