17 year old swept away in river, flood toll reaches 46

Dehradun, Aug 18 (UNI) The toll in monsoon-related incident in Uttarakhand reached 46 as a 17-year-old teenager was swept away in the river Yamuna today.

According to the State Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre, a 17-year-old boy was swept away in the river at Chakrata Tehsil in Dehradun district. The search for his body was still going on.

Another person Deewan Singh (35) was also swept away in river Jagbuda yesterday in Champawat district. His body was yet to be recovered too.

According to the DMMC report, two houses at Devthal village and Bora Burg of Pithoragarh district had been totally devastated. The total number of houses that have been washed away until now has reached 102 while 446 houses in the state were partially damaged.

In all 110.96 hectare agricultural land had been devastated by heavy downpour so far.

Many roads in various places were blocked due to landslide and vehicle movement was obstructed following the bridge collapse at Kelakhera-Rudrapur-Kashipur road in Uddhamsingh Nagar district.

Pipalkoti-Joshimath road was also blocked at Helang in Chamoli district.

Director of Weather Department Anand Sharma said no incident of heavy rain was reported in the state today but drizzling would continue to lash the whole state in coming days and it is likely that heavy rains will lash by August 20.
