Virbhadra for revival of Desert Development Project in HP

Shimla, Aug 17 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that government would contemplate a plan for the revival of Desert Development Project in the tribal areas of the state.

While interacting with local residents at Pooh en-route from Sumdoh to Kaza in Spiti Sub-Division of Lahaul and Spiti district, he said the desert development project had been envisioned for the cold desert areas of the state with a view to increasing the green cover.

He said cold desert area in Spiti, Pooh Sub-Division and some portion of Lahaul Sub-Division had low vegetation and the geo-physical conditions were also unfavourable. ''To make the life comfortable for the habitants of such areas, projects like Desert Development are essential and needed to be implemented in right earnest,'' Mr Virbhadra said.

The Chief Minister said the state government would requisit the services of eminent environmentalists and forest experts to formulate a suitable plan for the revival of all the areas covered under the project.
