Patiala, Aug 17 (UNI) Former Rajya Sabha member Amarjit Kaur today joined the race for the post of President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC).

Talking to mediapersons here, Mrs Kaur pointed that she had been serving the Congress party since the last three decades and being one of the senior most leaders, she had the right to move her name for the top party post in the state.

The current PPCC chief Shamsher Singh Dullo had submitted his resgination to the Congress high command after the party's debacle in the February assembly polls. He was however asked to continue at the post till a suitable incumbent was found.

'' The final decision will be taken by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and I have confidence in her'', Mrs Kaur added.

The daughter of former chief minister of PEPSU state, the late Col Raghubir Singh, she was a Rajya Sabha member from 1976 to 1988 (two terms). Currently she is a member of AICC and an executive member of PPCC.

She had also remained president of the Punjab Mahila Congress.

Without mentioning names, Mrs Kaure said that the condition of Congress party in the state had deteriorated. She said that she would meet Ms Gandhi and other central leaders to stake her claim for the PPCC post.
