UP govt submits Rs 142 cr plan to check pollution in 4 lakes
Lucknow, Aug 17 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government, under the river pollution control programme, forwarded a plan of Rs 142.22 crore to the union government for controlling pollution in four lakes in the state.
The central government has sanctioned a Rs 40.11 crore plan for Mansi Ganga Taal of Mathura.
Minister for Urban Development Nakul Dubey said the four selected lakes are Ram Garh Taal in Gorakhpur; Lakshmi Taal, Jhansi; Madan Sagar Taal, Mahoba' and Maansi Ganga Taal in Govardhan area of Mathura. These will be developed and rendered pollution free.
According to Mr Dubey, other lakes and large ponds would be selected through a survey and these would be taken up in the next phase of the programme.
Plans proposed for Ram Garh Taal project of Rs 60.97 crore, Lakshmi Taal project of Rs 32.09 crore and Madan Sagar Taal project of Rs 9.05 crore have been forwarded to the union government.
There are possibilities of receiving early sanctions of these projects.
Mr Dubey said since lakes and ponds play an important role in conservation of ground water, therefore it is essential to make them pollution free.
