Twelve militants arrested from quarters of three Cong MLAs

Imphal, Aug 17 (UNI) Twelve militants of three different outfits were today arrested from the official residences of three Congress MLAs and a former legislator by the Manipur police.

Director General of police Y Joykumar said they were arrested following raids at the high security Babupara VIP colony, Imphal.

He said the search operation was continuing at the VIP colony, where only ministers, MLAs and high ranking officials stay.

Arms, ammunition and some extortion demand letters were also seized from the militants, the DGP said.

Parts of one M-16 rifle, one 9 mm pistol, ten rounds of M-16 bullets, 5 rounds of 9 mm cartridged and 5 demand letters of KYKL addressed to different businessmen in Imphal area were also seized from the militants and the MLA's quarters.

The twelve militants were found at the residences of legislators W Brajabidhu, K Meghachandra, Bijoy Koijam, former mla N Sovakiran, the polcie chief said.

Mr Joykumar said that eight cadres of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were nabbed from the quarters of W Brajabidhu Singh, MLA. In addition, disassembled parts of one M-16 rifle and another 9 mm pistol have also been recovered from septic tank of the quarters of the MLA. An FIR was filed at Imphal police station under arms act.

A cadre of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) was nabbed from the quarter of N. Sovakiran Singh, Ex-MLA.

Police continued the search operation in the high security zone and a cadre of KCP and another cadre of People's Liberation Army (PLA) were nabbed from the quarters of K. Meghachandra Singh, MLA.

One bailed out cadre of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) was nabbed from the residence of Bijoy Koijam.

Cases were also registered regarding arrest of these cadres of militant organizations.

The DGP, when asked about the involvement of the MLAs and the former MLA, said investigations were on.
