Chennai, Aug 17 (UNI) A designated TADA court has sent Maoist leader V Sundaramoorthy to police custody for five days in connection with a bomb blast case of 1992.

The court also permitted the 'Q'Branch police, dealing with cases pertaining to extremists, to conduct further investigation in the case against him.

Allowing the prosecution plea, Special Judge for Terrorism and Disruptive (Prevention) Activities Act (TADA) T Ramasamy said he was of the considered view that the interrogation of the accused was necessary to bring out fresh facts, that would help the prosecution to take the case in a proper way.

''Hence, in the interest of justice, it is necessary to pass an order for further investigation,'' he said.

The custody, which commenced last evening, would end on August 20, when the police were asked to produce the accused in the court.

It may be recalled that Sundaramoorthy was arrested in Tiruppur recently for his alleged involvement in extremist activities. On August 14, he was formally arrested in connection with the case relating to blasting the rail tracks between Dharmapuri and Palacode stations in October 1992 and produced before the TADA court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
