Speaker urges members to utilise the House's precious time

Ranchi, Aug 17 (UNI) The week-long monsoon session of Jharkhand Assembly today began with Speaker Alam Gir Alam urging all members to make use of its ''precious time'' during debate for the welfare of the state.

In his inaugural speech, Mr Alam said during the six day-session, the first supplementary bill of current fiscal would be presented in the House.

Besides, state bills would also be introduced for debate, the speaker said and hoped that the performance of the government would be reviewed through discussion on the Supplementary Budget and state bills.

Mr Alam announced the formation of Business Advisory Council (BAC) comprising Chief Minister Madhu Koda, Deputy Chief Ministers Stephen Marandi and Sudhir Mahto, Leader of Opposition Arjun Munda and RJD's legislature leader Annapurna Devi.

The House paid tributes to former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, political leaders like Manjay Lal, Bachcha Chaube, Lalbabu Prasad, Surendra Prasad Singh and BJP legislator Upendra Nath Das.

Among the prominent persons who spoke on the occasion were the Speaker, the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto, Congress Legislature Party leader Manoj Yadav, RJD's Annapurna Devi, former Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari, Radha Kishore (JD-U) and Vinod Kumar Singh (CPI-ML).
