Sonia inaugurates Jaihind Malayalam TV Channel

New Delhi, Aug 17(UNI) With the launch of yet another Malayalam channel-Jaihind TV, Keraliites all over the world have got more choice to watch programmes in their own language.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi dedicated the new channel to the nation on Malayalam New Year's Day today, at a function at Siri Fort Auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Gandhi conveyed her " greetings and best wishes" to all Malayalees on the occasion of Onam, which falls on August 27.

Kerala Pradesh Congress President Ramesh Chennithala presided over the function, which was attended by Defence Minister A K Antony, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi and a host of other dignitaries.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi and Superstar Mohanlal were also present on the occasion.

Mr Chennithala said the channel would try to uphold the democratic, secular values of the nation. A channel with a national outlook, it would have a clear view on social and political issues.

It would be a tribute to Kerala, its culture, its heritage and most importantly its people. Keeping India in focus it would try to reach global citizens and address issues of global relevance.

"Jaihind TV is the voice of the global Malayalees, portrayal of Kerala's culture and society, based on the ideals of nationalism and seek to live up to the values of secularism, patriotism and democracy," he said.

A joint venture of Bharat Broadcasting Network and Jaihind Communications, the new channel would give primacy to infotainment and sufficient time for children's programme. Women and youth, health and sports also find a prominent place in the programmes of Jaihind TV.

Bharat Brodcasting Chairman Aniyankutty, Jaihind Communications Chairman Vijayan Thomas and Director M M Hassan were also present.

The inaugural function was followed by a musical programme.
