Movie maker Dasgupta named for Golden Athena award
Kolkata, Aug 17 (UNI) Athens International Film Festival would confer the prestigious ''Golden Athena'' on noted filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta and screen a retrospective of his cinematic works in Athens next month.
Festival Director Orestic Andreadakis in a communique today said the festival to be held between September 20 and 30 will present a retrospective of Dasgupta's cinematic works, including seven feature films.
The communique said, '' We believe that this retrospective would be a rare opportunity to spotlight your work and also another, truly important aspect of modern Indian cinema, which beyond Bollywood musical is little known in Greece. '' The Golden Athena was earlier presented to Kim Ki Duk, Daniel Day Lewis and Costas Gavras.
Talking to UNI, Dasgupta said he would go Athens after attending Toronto Internation Film Festival to be held between September 6-19 where his '' Ami, Yasin O Amar Madhubala'' would be premiered.
The films to be screened in the Athens retrospective are ''Kalpurus'', '' Mandomeyer Upakhaan'' and others.
