Mundra, Gujarat, Aug 17 (UNI) In order to beef up coastal security of Gujarat, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated a police station at Mundra, a port town in Kachch district around 200 km from the border with Pakistan.

''It is the nearest Indian police station on the coastal border with Pakistan. Apart from helping Coast Guards in guarding Indian waters, this police station will help in checking the intrusion from Pakistan,'' said Mr Modi after inaugurating the station at Mundra.

''The police station is first of its kind in Gujarat equipped with the state-of-the-art surveillance system. We want to introduce 51 such police stations in the entire coastal border of Kachch with Pakistan. However, the Central Government has approved only 10 of them,'' Mr Modi said.

''We have proposed coastal security project worth Rs 392.47 crore to the Centre, of which the Centre has approved only Rs 58 crore,'' he added.

''In order to have regular surveillance, we have also sought helicopters and coastal boats from the Centre but to no avail,'' Mr Modi said.

Those present at the function were Mundra district Panchayat President Jivabhai Ahir, legislator Nimaben Acharya, district BJP President Tarachand Chheda, border range IGP K Kumarswamy, DSP G S Malik, collector R R Varsani and district government officials.
