MLA Shreyas not eligible for assignment of land: Kerala

Kochi, Aug 17 (UNI) The Kerala government today informed the state High Court that M V Shreyas Kumar, MLA from Kalpetta constituency, and son of M P Veerendrakumar, MP, was not eligible for assignment of land as per Kerala Land Assignment Rules.

The government, in its affidavit filed following directions from Justice S Sirijagan said Mr Shreyas Kumar was already in possession of land in excess of the limit specified in the Kerala Land Assignment Act.

Mr Shreyas Kumar had moved the High Court, seeking the assignment of land at Krishnagiri Estate at Wayanad in his name.

Earlier, the government had submitted before the court in a separate case that the purpose of the Kerala Land Assignment Act was to help the poor and landless and not add to the land holdings of the rich.
