Lease of four Delhi schools cancelled : Minister

New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has cancelled the lease deed of four schools in the capital for not complying with free-ship quota conditions, the Lok Sabha was told today.

Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken said in a written reply, that these were Gyan Mandir, Rukmani Devi Public School, Pinnacle Education Society and Bal Bharati Public School.

He also said show cause notices have issued to various defaulting schools as per the Delhi Government's report.

In reply to a supplementary, he said the land's possession is yet to be taken over by the DDA as there is a stay on it by the Delhi High Court.

As per a High Court order, the schools in Delhi are obliged to earmark 15 per cent of their total seats for students belonging to the economically weaker sections under the free-ship scheme. The scheme is in lieu of grant of land by the DDA for their school buildings at below market prices.

The schools were being allotted land by the Delhi Government on condition that they provide free education to students who hail from the economically lower strata of society. Some of the schools have violated the condtion.
