K'taka govt releses Rs.120 crore for flood relief

Bangalore, Aug 17 (UNI) Karnataka has released Rs,120 crore to take up relief operations in flood hit taluks in the state, Deputy Chief Miniser B S Yediyurappa said today.

Mr Yediyurappa, who also holds the finance portfolio, while addressing an all party meeting on flood situation said that as many as 120 taluks have been affected by the recnt floods and Rs.one crore had been released to each taluk for relief operations including repairs to tanks and lakes.

He said the government had decided to provide houses under Ashraya scheme to the people who have lost their houses in the heavy rains and floods.

Home Minister M P Prakash said Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy has sought an appointment with Prime Minister Manmohan Sinh to lead an all party delegation on seeking funds for taking up the relief works.

"Within the next three days the government would take stock of the situatiion on the extent of damages to crop loss, property loss in the floods before leading the delegation, he said.

He said the goverment would take measures on a war footing to provideg power and drinking water to the affected regions besides repairing roads.
