Girl commits suicide in Kashmir, no impact of Ulemas fatwa
Srinagar, Aug 17 (UNI) One more girl committed suicide in the valley, despite the Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Bashir Uddin declaring it unislamic and against the teachings of Prophet Mohamamd. A police spokesman said the girl, Sima, consumed some poisonous substance at her residence this morning.She was immediately rushed to hospital where she died.
At an average of two people, mostly women are committing suicide everyday and about half a dozen persons have committed suicide since the Ulemas issued the fatwa last month.
According to official figures 62 people committed suicide in 2006, while the toll for the first six months of the current year is 75.
