Four power project employees washed away in North Sikkim
Gangtok, Aug 17 (UNI) Four men, conducting preliminary works for a mega power project at Dzongu, North Sikkim, were washed away by flash floods in Tholung Chu river yesterday, officials today said.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of North Sikkim T N Kazi here today said the four were engaged in investigative works for the Himagiri company when the incident occurred.
Himagiri company had signed a MoU with the state government for setting up a 280 MW power project in Dzongu and a proposed dam at Lingzia.
Initial reports stated that the persons were working on the river bank when a flash flood swept them away, the DC added.
''A search team was rushed to the spot which is three hours away from the district headquarters. When the team reports back, we will be able to ascertain the actual cause of the deaths,'' the DC added.
