DGP Aulakh inaugurates seminar on Safem and NDPS Act

Phagwara, Aug 17 (UNI) Punjab DGP NPS Aulakh today inaugurated a "Seminar on the Provisions of SAFEM (FOP) Act 1976 and NDPS Act 1985" in Punjab Police Acdemy Phillaur today to educate the police officers about the provisions of law in to curb crimes prevalent in the region.

It was the third such seminar cum training programmeto be held after Patiala and Chandigarh on "Latest Trends of Smuggling" and "Counter Narcotics and Commodities and Training Project".

Mrs Archna Ranjan, adminstrator New Delhi, in her inagural address enlightened the participant police officers about Asset Forfeiture of Drug Traffickers and gave vital information about NDPS act and SAFEM (FOP) act (Smugglers) and Foreign Exchange Manipulations (Forfeiture of Property Act).

She said, asset forfeiture of drug traffickers was a very strong tool in the hands of police officers to punish and prevent drug traffickers in spreading the menace of drugs, as it ruined them economically.

Mr Dheeraj Rastogi, IRS Joint Director Revenue Intelligence, meticulously explained the menace of drugs smuggling through Punjab and adjoining area and new ways being adopted by the drug smugglers and explained the ways to curb the same.

Mr Rajiv Ranjan, Asstt Commissioner Police, New Delhi delivered impressive presentation on various provisions of Chapter V-A of NDPS act 1985 including case studies and Mrs Priya Sahu, Joint Commissioner New Delhi gave presentation on "Financial Investigation - Net Worth Analysis- Method and Techniques including Case Studies.

Administrator Mrs Archna Ranjan said that in changing scenerio, 40 cases of Assett Forfeiture were materialised just in three months of this financial year only in Punjab whereas the figure was only 14 in last three years.
