CPI(M) playing double standard game to oppose nuclear deal: Mamata

Kolkata, Aug 17 (UNI) Demanding the scrapping of SEZ, Indo-US nuclear deal and entry of corporate sectors in the retail market, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee said the CPI(M) was playing a double standard game to oppose the deal.

''We are not against industrialisation, but against the SEZ, Indo-US nuclear deal and entry of corporate sectors in the retail market, where as the CPI(M) was opposing the nuclear deal and welcoming SEZ for industrialisation,'' Ms Banerjee, the leader of Krishi Jami, Jeeban-O-Jeebika Raksha Committee said while addressing a rally here.

''They consider SEZ to be better than the nuclear deal. It is the CPI's double standard policy and opposing the deal is an election gimmick,'' she said.

She alleged that the LF government opposing the nuclear deal meant demanding another ten more SEZs from the Centre.

The Left Front government's industrialisation policy was snatching livelyhood of the poor, Ms Banerjee said.

The Trinamool Congress supremo said more than ten crores of people were involved in the retail sectors throughout the country and of them one crore were in West Bengal alone and they would be jobless after corporate sector's entry into the retail market.

She warned that these people could topple the LF government in no time.

The LF government should explain the number of jobs provided in their 30-year reign, she demanded.

''We are also demanding that the state government should not acquire agricultural land for the industry and give back land to the farmers in Singur, justice to Nandigram mass killings and scrapping of the SEZ, Indo-US nuclear deal and ban the entry of corporate sectors into the retail markets.''
