Business establishments remain closed in J'khand

Ranchi, Aug 17 (UNI) Business establishments throughout Jharkhand remained closed today demanding rehabilitation, industrial policy and simplification of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the state.

The business establishments, owing allegiance to the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI), remained closed in support of the 'Jharkhand bandh' call given by the FJCCI.

FJCCI president Arun Kumar Budhia told UNI here today that the bandh was called to draw the attention of the state government which had not heeded their demands, including in regard to the Krishi Bazar Samities and ensuring condusive atmosphere for industrialists interested in investing in the state.

''Earlier we had decided to decided to go for social boycott of the politicians. However, they remained indifferent. Therefore, we have called the bandh to protest the deteoriating law and order situation and unfavourable environment for traders in the state,'' Mr Budhia added.

Meanwhile, emergency services and educational institutions, including pharmacies and schools, had been kept out of the agitation's ambit.

Jharkhand Small Industries Association president Bikas Singh said the present agitation was an outcome of people's anger adding that they would continue pressurising the government to fulfil their demands.

Reports received here from Dumka, Bokaro, Giridih, Chatra and other districts said commercial activities came to a halt in these areas.
