Arrested youth attempts suicide in police lock-up

Nashik, Aug 17 (UNI) A 20-year-old youth, arrested in connection with motorcycle thefts, today tried to commit suicide while in police lock-up.

Police said Vishal Chandrakant Shinde, arrested yesterday, was to be produced before the court today.

But, the youth tried to swallow an iron strip. He was, however, immediately rushed to the civil hospital and his condition is now stated to be stable.

Apart from Vishal, the police had arrested four others -- Nilesh Chandrakant Shinde (Vishal's brother), Akhtar alias Noora Sayyad, Sikandar Hussain Shaikh, and Akbar alias Babloo Noora Sayyad. All of them are aged between 19 and 22.

Police have recovered five stolen motorcycles, totally worth around Rs 137,000, from the five.
