AIMIM attack on Taslima reminds of Nizam Rule: BJP

Hyderabad, Aug 17 (UNI) Comparing the recent attack on noted Bangladesh author Taslima Nasreen by the AIMIM legislators to supression of freedom of speech during the 'autocratic' rule of the Niza, the BJP today accused the Congress Government of adopting a ''soft approach'' towards its ally -- the AIMIM.

Noted writer Shoebullah Khan was murdered during the then Nizam's regime for ''fearlessly'' articulating his views like Ms Nasreen who took up the cause of minority Hindus in Bangladesh, BJP State President Bandaru Dattatreya told a press conference here.

Even after all parties pressed for stern action against AIMIM legislators 'who engineered the attack,' the Rajasekhara Reddy Government was refusing to take action against them ''fearing'' estrangement of relationship with the ''friendly'' party, he claimed.

The BJP would gift the Chief Minister a ''granth'' on the history of freedom struggle in the Hyderabad state to help him realise the importance of liberation of the Pearl City from the Nizam's Rule.

It would also organise official celebrations taking cue from Maharashtra and Karnataka where the event was celebrated officially, he added.
