12-party conglomerate to sit on hunger strike in Assam
Guwahati, Aug 17 (UNI) The 12-party conglomerate of Opposition parties in Assam will sit on a 10-hour mass hunger strike on August 29 to press for the early resolving of their various demands.
The decision was taken today at a meeting at the Circuit House here, attended by leaders of AGP(P), PLP, AUDF, CPI(ML), RSP and other parties of the conglomerate.
The parties demanded direct talks between the government and the ULFA, check in the prices of essential goods, solution of the inter-state border row between NE states, resolving the unemployment problem in the state and filling up of the over 55,000 posts lying vacant in the state.
It also demanded a permanent solution for the recurring flood and erosion problem in the state.
