Turnover up by 77.9 pc at Rs 5,684 cr in 1st session on MCX

Mumbai, Aug 16 (UNI) The turnover on Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) of India Ltd ended upward at Rs 5,684.80 crore at the end of the first session today, up by 77.9 per cent (pc) with trades numbering 105,025.

MCX Comdex -- the composite index of metals, energy and agri sub-indices -- was down 0.72 pc at 2,136.99 points. MCX Metal Index fell 1.42 pc at 2,412.7 points, MCX Energy Index gained 0.03 pc at 2,264.74 points, while MCX Agri Index lost 0.7 pc to close at 1,757.48 points, the release issued by MCX.

Bullion turnover scaled up sharply by 174.9 pc to Rs 1,899.23 crore, of which gold contracts accounted for Rs 1,052.18 crore and silver contracts Rs 847.05 crore. Gold contract volumes were 11,828 kg and open interest (OI) 11,555 kg, while silver volumes were 491,115 kg and OI 550,580 kg. Gold contracts, including gold mini, added between Rs 4 and Rs 9 per 10 gm. Gold October 2007 contract gained 0.04 pc at Rs 8,902 per 10 gm. Silver contracts, including silver mini, fell between Rs 233 and Rs 274 per kg. The September contract lost 1.36 pc at Rs 17,155 per kg.

In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 1,467.79 crore. Volumes were 49,398,000 kg and OI 17,493,000 kg.

Copper contracts were down between Rs 9.15 and Rs 9.20 per kg, with the August delivery contract receding 3.03 pc at Rs 293.95 per kg.

Turnover of all zinc contracts was Rs 701.67 crore with volume of 52,320 tonnes and OI of 49,770 tonnes. Zinc contracts lost between Rs 3.25 and Rs 4.40 per kg. Zinc August contract was down by 3.22 pc at Rs 132.4 per kg.

Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 277.14 crore with volume of 2,582,000 kg and OI of 2,419,500 kg. Nickel contracts receded in the range of Rs 46.9 and Rs 53.8 with the August delivery contract down by 4.86 pc at Rs 1053.3 per kg.

Turnover of all aluminium contracts was Rs 6.83 crore with volume of 662 tonnes and OI of 3,694 tonnes. Aluminium August contract was down by 1.26 pc at Rs 102.25 per kg. Lead contracts turnover was Rs 409.34 crore with volume of 33,885 tonnes and OI of 8,255 tonnes.

Lead for August delivery lost 3.91 pc at Rs 119.2 per kg.

In the energy segment, crude oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 597 crore. Volumes were 2,017,500 barrels and OI 931,300 barrels.

Crude oil September contract gained 0.62 pc at Rs 2,943 per barrel.

Natural gas turnover across all contracts was Rs 20.23 crore with volume of 710,500 mmBTU and OI of 1,829,000 mmBTU. Natural gas contract for August delivery was down 2.13 pc at Rs 276.2 per mmBTU.

Among agri commodities, refined soya oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 163 crore with volume of 33,410 tonnes and OI of 35,210 tonnes. Soya oil for September delivery was down 1.05 pc at Rs 487.6 per 10 kg.

Guarseed contracts turnover was Rs 0.83 crore with volume of 470 tonnes and OI of 3,300 tonnes. Guarseed August contract was down by 2.3 pc at Rs 1,762.5 per quintal.

Potato (Agra and Tarkeshwar) witnessed a turnover of Rs 31.55 crore with volume of 48,720 tonnes and OI of 75,210 tonnes. Potato Agra September contract lost 1.87 pc at Rs 628.4 per quintal, while potato Tarkeshwar September contract was down by 1.37 pc at Rs 675.2 per quintal.

Mentha oil contracts witnessed a turnover of Rs 27.98 crore with volume of 510 tonnes and OI of 1,054 tonnes. Mentha oil for August delivery was up 0.41 pc at Rs 540.5 per kg.

Chana contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 3.58 crore, volume of 1,520 tonnes and OI of 4,550 tonnes. Chana for August delivery was down 0.09 pc to Rs 2,295 per quintal. Kapas khalli turnover was Rs 2.46 crore, volume 3,425 tonnes and OI of 13,105 tonnes. Kapaskhali for August delivery was up 0.14 pc to Rs 365.3 per 50 kg.

Cardamom contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 21.08 crore, volume of 376 tonnes and OI of 452 tonnes. Cardamom September contract fell 0.99 pc to Rs 551.5 per kg.

Jute contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 15.01 crore, volume of 10,670 tonnes and OI of 6450 tonnes. Jute August contract was up 0.66 pc to Rs 1,370.5 per quintal.

Robusta coffee turnover was Rs 2.01 crore with volume of 269 tonnes and OI of 410 tonnes. Robusta for August delivery fell by 2.57 pc to Rs 7,389 per quintal. Soyabean turnover was Rs 4.36 crore, volume 28,200 tonnes and OI 21,900 tonnes. Soybean August contract was down 0.95 pc to Rs 1,571 per quintal.
