TRS to launch agitation for SRSP project in Telangana
Hyderabad, Aug 16 (UNI) Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) President and former Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao today said the TRS would launch agitation, demanding that the Andhra Pradesh Government supply irrigation water to Nalgonda, Warangal and Karimnagar districts through Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) soon.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the Government was claiming that the SRSP's second stage project would provide water to 18 lakh acres of land. But the capacity of the project was low as compared to Nagarjuna Sagar, which was supplying water to 15 lakh acres, he added.
Mr Rao alleged that the Government recorded that irrigation water was provided to nine lakh acres already during this monsoon season, whereas only 3.5 lakh acres received water this year.
The Government had received funds from the Centre and other agencies in the name of Telangana projects and investing the money in coastal Andhra, Mr Rao claimed, adding that the TRS would launch the agitation with the support of farmers.
