Three bodies recovered in HP, flood fury continues in UP

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) Three more bodies of Ghanvi cloudburst victims were recovered from Himachal Pradesh taking the death toll to nine, while the flood situation in Uttar Pradesh continued to threaten normal life with the increase in the water levels of the major rivers.

In Uttar Pradesh, the water level of prominent rivers have started to swell again. Death of two children in a wall collapse of Sant Kabir Nagar district has taken the toll to 188 so far.

Light to moderate rain pounded many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Una and Shimla districts overnight.

Una and Bhang-Manali were the wettest places in the state, recording 16.0 mm each rainfall till this morning while Sujanpur Tira registered 11.2 mm, Pandoh 8.5 mm and Berthin 8.2 mm.

Moderate rain lashed many areas in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh since last night, providing respite from hot weather conditions in the region.

Monsoon rain lashed several areas in Punjab with Madopur, near Pathankot, turning the wettest place in the state, recording 16.0 mm rainfall till this morning.

On the other hand, hot and humid conditions continued to prevail in Delhi for the second consecutive day, with the mercury rising to 36.5 degrees Celsius.

Monsoon has almost become inactive in Rajasthan but weathermen predict that the third phase of monsoon is likely commence next week.

The temperature has risen in Jaipur with no rains in the past four days. The maximum here was recorded at 33.5 degrees.

The Southwest Monsoon has been active in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar.

It has been subdued over Orissa, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, interior Karnataka and Kerala.

Heavy rains have occurred at most places in Assam and Meghalaya, and at a few places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Rain or thundershowers have occured at most places in Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar, and at many places in Arunchal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Madhya Maharashtra and coastal Karnataka.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at a few places in Jharkhand, east Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, and at isolated places in Uttaranchal, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka.
