SUCI to organise road blockade protesting price hike of power
Kolkata, Aug 16 (UNI) The SUCI will organise a road blockade and a law violation programme protesting price hike of power, essential commodities and corporate sectors entry into the retail markets.
SUCI state secretary Provash Ghosh told mediapersons here today that the party would organise the road blockade throughout the state on August 22 and a law violation programme would be held in central Kolkata on August 31.
''The prices of essential commodities has increased rapidly in recent times, electricity charges has been hiked in domestic areas and the corporate sectors made an entry into the retail sectors which were affecting the poor,'' Mr Ghosh said.
He also said fifty lakh people rendered homeless in West Midnapore because of floods and the state government has failed to control the situation.
''The government should reduce the prices of essential commodities and power, ban the entry of corporate sectors into the retail market and announce the rehabilitation packages for the flood affected people, otherwise we will organise mass movement against it,'' Mr Ghosh threatened.
The party would also demonstrate in front of the district magistrate offices in first week of September throughout the state, he added.
