One killed, 8 injured as entrance gate caves in
Akola, Aug 16 (UNI) A 20-year-old man was killed and 8 others injured after the slab of an underconstruction entrance gate caved in at village Ugwa near here yesterday.
The deceased, identified as Ganesh Ramesh Kokate, was a labourer working at the site and was a resident of Mahatma Phule Nagar here, police said today.
The injured are undergoing medical treatment at the general hospital here.
The Akola Zilla Parishad chief Balmukund Birad has declared an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh to the next-of-kin of the deceased, while Rs 10,000 each has been given to those injured for medical treatment, ZP sources said.
The ex-gratia payment will be made to the families of the deceased and injured by BRP-BMS chief Prakash Ambedkar here tomorrow, sources said.
Meanwhile, Dilip Golhane, junior engineer of PWD of Akola Zilla Parishad and Padmane, the gram sevak of village Ugwa, have been suspended following allegations by irate villagers, that both were responsible for using sub-standard cement in construction of the entrace gate, sources added.
