Kottayam, Aug 16 (UNI) Forest Minister Binoy Viswam categorically said today the Left Front Government was not for a confrontation with the minorities and was trying to usurp their rights.

Talking to reporters after visiting the Press Club here which was destroyed in stone pelting during the Minority Rights Protection Rally, he said that there was no need for the church to organise the rally and meeting against the government and there was no need for any apprehension on the part of the minorities as the Left Front was their natural ally.

Mr Viswam contended it was the Sangh Parivar parties which were opposing the minorities wanting to destroy the secular nature.

The LDF Government was keeping its doors open for a dialogue with the church and solve the Self Financing Professional Colleges issue, he added.

Meanwhile, the organisers of the rally today expressed regret over the untoward incidents and said they would compensate for the loss though, according to them, it was the handiwork of anti-social elements.
