Solapur, Maharashtra, Aug 16 (UNI) Karnataka MLA Ravi Patil and eleven others were arrested in the early hours today for disturbing peace and causing nuisance, and released on bail later in the afternoon.

Police said that Ravi Patil, who resides in Solapur, was celebrating his birthday along with his supporters, including his nephew Uday Patil late last night.

The revellers burst crackers and indulged in noisy celebrations.

The Police objected to the noise and heated arguments broke out between the two sides. Thereafter, Patil and the others were arrested.

Patil has alleged that Solapur Police Commissioner Ashok Kamthe had roughed him up and beaten him. The Commissioner, however, denied the charge. Mr Kamthe said the MLA had violated Supreme Court orders, banning use of loudspeakers and noisy celebrations after 2200 hrs.

Immediately after his arrest, Patil had complained of chest pain following which he was removed to the Solapur Civil Hospital.

Later, in the afternoon, the court granted him bail on a surety of Rs 10,000.
