JJ Visits Defence Installations, Institutes in South

Hyderabad, Aug 16 (UNI) Army Chief General JJ Singh today began a two-day tour of defence installations in the south to assess the progress in various key areas of force modernisation and training in the Indian Army.

Shortly after his arrival here this morning from the capital, Gen JJ Singh -- who is also currently the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee -- addressed delegates attending the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC) at the College of Defence Management (CDM).

The Army Chief told the participants -- Colonels and equivalent of the three Services attending the HDM Course (HDMC) at the College of Defence Management (CDM) -- about his 'Vision 2020 for the Indian Army'.

The College of Defence Management (CDM) is a premier tri-Services Institute involved in imparting institutionalised training and education in development of concepts and application of scientific disciplines in various facets of management of national military security at the operational and strategic levels.

The Army Chief later interacted with the officers of Bison infantry Division, and formations and units of the Secunderabad military garrison.

Reaching Bangalore tomorrow, Gen JJ Singh will inaugurate the newly-constructed ultra-modern complex and associated state-of-art training and residential facilities for the Army Institute of Hotel Management&Catering Technology (AIHM&CT).

AIHM&CT has been established under the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) which is involved in development and management of a large number of technical education institutes as part of the Army's contribution to development of the nation's human capital and the national resource pool of technically qualified youth.

AWES runs a large number of Army Public Schools in country as well as the premier technical education institutions namely the Army Institute of Law (AIL) and the Army College of Dental Sciences (ACDS).

While in Bangalore, the Army Chief will also be visiting the Madras Engineering Group (MEG) Training Centre and the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

At HAL, Gen JJ Singh is expected to critically apprise himself of the progress made on various current projects including the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), the Jaguar Assembly Line, Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) and various Training Simulators.

According to an official spokesperson, the two-day visit by the Army Chief -- of prestigious defence training institutes and Public Sector Units in Hyderabad and Bangalore -- is expected to help him apprise himself about the progress made in various key areas of force modernisation and training that he had set for the Indian Army.
