HP distributes Rs 2.60 lakh to cloudburst victims

Shimla, Aug 16 (UNI) Deputy Commissioner Shimla Tarun Kapoor today distributed Rs 2.60 lakh as relief to the cloudburst victims in Rampur district of Himachal Pradesh.

He said homeless people and the people of Dharla village who were feeling unsafe in their houses and those who fall in danger zone have been shifted to safe areas.

Mr Kapoor said army had also put up five tents for such people and was providing 81 blankets, 26 tarpaulins and 30 sets of cooking utensils including pressure cooker, plates, glasses and tava, he said.

At least 500 CGI sheets would be distributed in coming days to the affected people to construct temporary accommodation, he said.

Mr Kapoor said a medical team had been stationed at Ghanvi to provide first aid and other medical support to the people.

Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje today visited the cloudburst and flood hit areas of Rampur tehsil in District Shimla.

Mr Kokje expressed concern over the natural calamity and directed the Revenue authorities to provide proper alternative shelter and shift the affected families to safer places and ensure all possible help to victims of the cloudburst.
