Heavy rains not likely within next 48 hours

Kolkata, Aug 16 (UNI) With temperature remaining within the normal range today, no heavy rainfall is expected at least for the next 48 hours.

Alipore Met department Deputy Director General L R Meena said that according to the numerical weather prediction models, heavy rainfall is not expected until August 18, when there is a possibility of another depression forming over the Bay of Bengal.

He said that West Bengal is presently out of danger, but the sub-Himalayan parts of Bengal, especially north Malda, may experience heavier spells of rain within a few days. Other parts of the state is likely to experience light rain for the next few days.

Met office personnel reported that the maximum temperature recorded was 31.5 degrees Celsius while the minimum was pegged at 25.9 degrees Celsius.

The relative humidity was in general high with the maximum being recorded at 98 per cent.

Total rainfall recorded within the last 24 hours was recorded at 22.3 mm.
