HC orders action in Sultanpur district jail clash incident

Lucknow, Aug 16 (UNI) Hearing a PIL over the prisoners-police clash in Sultanpur district jail recently, Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High today ordered the DIG (Range) and DIG (Prisons) to constitute a committee to probe the matter and ensure filing of cases against the guilty.

The order was passed by Chief Justice H N Gokhale and Justice Rajiv Sharma hearing the PIL filed by a prisoner Ramdev through his counsel Sharad, Pathak.

The bench noted FIRs would be lodged and investigation initiated against all those indicted by the committee.

The petition had alleged that the clash was the result of apathy on part of the Sultanpur district jail administration.

The petitioner had also demanded a CBI probe in the case.
