Haryana launches insurance scheme for construction workers

Chandigarh, Aug 16 (UNI) The Haryana government had launched a novel social security scheme 'Jan Shri Bima Yojana' for workers engaged in the building and other construction activites, Finance, Labour and Employment Minister Birender Singh said here today.

Mr. Birender Singh informed that the scheme not only ensured family protection of the members in case of their untimely death but also helped in the education of their children. He said that in order to get the insurance cover of this scheme, a worker would have to pay a premium of Rs. 100 per annum to the Life Insurance Corporation. He said that the premium would be borne by the Haryana Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

While detailing out the modalities of the insurance cover, Mr.

Birender Singh said that Jan Shri Bima Yojana would provide the benefits of life insurance to construction workers aged between 18 and 59 years.

He said that payment of Rs. 30,000 would be given to the nominee in case of natural death of the insured worker while Rs 75,000 would be given to the nominee in case of death by accident or permanent disability due to accident or loss of two eyes or two limbs or one eye and one limb.

He said that a sum of Rs 37,500 would be paid to the insured worker in case he lost his one eye or one limb in an accident.

He further said that under Shiksha Shyog Yojna, a scholarship of Rs. 300 per quarter per child was being provided to members having not more than two children studying in classes 9- 12.

He said that only those families would get benefit under the scheme who would either apply or shall get themselves registered as beneficiaries with the Board.
