Elephant kills mahout, hurts another

Thrissur, Kerala, Aug 16: An elephant trampled its mahout to death and seriously injured another at Chettuva near here.

'Keerti,' owned by the Guruvayur Devaswom Board, was being brought here after 'Anayoot', an elephant feeding function at a temple in Chettuva when it trampled to death Gopalakrishnan, the 'mahout'.

Even during the function, the animal showed signs of distress and attacked another mahout Sadasivan, seriously injuring him.

Later, the elephant was brought under control by a team of mahouts.
